The first day is dedicated to establishing a robust and comprehensive understanding of the entire interview process. Our expert trainers will guide delegates through the critical legal and strategic components, ensuring they are prepared for the complexities of a formal interview.
Topics covered in detail include:
The PEACE Model In-Depth: A thorough exploration of all five stages, from meticulous planning to critical evaluation.
Advanced Questioning Techniques: Mastering open, probing, and specific questions to effectively gather a full account, including the use of the free recall interview model.
Managing Difficult Scenarios: Developing proven strategies for responding to "no comment," silent, or uncooperative suspects.
Handling Legal Elements: Learning to manage pre-interview disclosures, engage professionally with legal advisors/solicitors, and handle prepared statements.
Evidence and Strategy: Understanding the critical strategy of gaining a suspect's full account before introducing evidence. This also covers the correct procedure for introducing exhibits, bad character evidence, and using tools like sketch plans to clarify information.
The Challenge Phase: Gaining the skills to appropriately challenge inconsistencies or contradictions in a suspect's account.
Effective Note-Taking: Learning techniques to maintain accurate and contemporaneous notes that can withstand scrutiny.
-
On the second day, delegates will translate theory into practice. This session is designed to build confidence and solidify skills in a realistic, controlled environment.
Bespoke Case Scenarios: We believe training should be relevant. Before the course, we will work with you to develop a case scenario that is bespoke to your organisation's specific requirements and challenges.
Realistic Role-Play: We bring in professional actors to play the role of the suspect, providing a realistic and challenging interview experience that tests the delegates' skills under pressure.
Live Interview Practice: Working in pairs, delegates will plan and conduct their mock PACE interview from start to finish, applying the techniques learned on Day 1.
Assessment and Feedback: Performance is key. Each delegate is formally assessed during the practical exercise, and comprehensive written feedback is provided at the completion of the course to guide their ongoing professional development.
